Quality of Life
This is a broad topic as there are many factors that make up quality of life including: safe neighborhoods, parks and recreation programs, arts & culture emphasis, entertainment, education, transportation, diverse housing, civic engagement and much more. Some examples of recent actions taken by Council to improve quality of life include:
WeRide: a micro-transit pilot program that provides transportation by van to the designated service area.
Community Response Unit: this unit assigned to the Fire Department provides on-site crisis response services to residents and to first responders.
Economic Development
In an uncertain economy, the city has been able to maintain a high standard of service and keep up with growth. The economic development of Goodyear is a high priority as we seek to bring the restaurants, retail and amenities requested by our residents. Our success in attracting new businesses has largely been due to our increase in daytime population (due to new increased employment opportunities) and higher density of population (as a result of the increase in multi-family housing). The new city hall complex at GSQ is a catalyst for development in the former mall site by Harkins. Expect to see popular names be announced as we grow.
Public Safety
The safety and well-being of our city continues to be a top priority in the city as evidenced by our financial commitment in the budget to staff, train, and equip our police and fire departments. First responders are subjected to unprecedented social and environmental pressures. Our public safety agencies have earned good reputations and are consistently able to hire and retain quality candidates. As our city grows, the number of calls for public safety also increase. It is critical that we continue to invest in maintaining our high public safety standards.
